EVE Blog Banter #9: Stop Tarnishing My Halo

Welcome to another installment of the EVE Blog Banter, a monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter invites enthusiastic EVE bloggers to address a common topic for a period of one week. Posts run the gamut: short, long, funny, serious, and everywhere in between, but always fun to read! Last month Ga’len asked us which game mechanic we would most like to see added to EVE. This month Keith “Mandrill” Nielson proposes to reverse the question and ask what may be a controversial question: "Which game mechanic would you most like to see removed completely from EVE and why? I can see this getting quite heated so lets keep it civil eh?" Direct questions about the EVE Blog Banter to CrazyKinux. Links to other EVE Blog Banter articles will be listed at the end of this post as they become available.

Life in New Eden is complex enough without having to perform unnecessarily cumbersome and essentially pointless tasks. You know the ones I'm talking about--the ones that make me mutter and/or loudly interject foul language on voice comms or type really bad words in corp chat, thereby tarnishing the shine on my otherwise golden glowing halo. Therefore to maintain my normally angelic demeanor and protect my friends from sudden expletive-laden outbursts, I propose that the following irritations be removed from the game:
  • Inability to contract damaged items. Explain to me just how the hell it is that we can pull market data from systems across a region, contract data from the entire universe, communicate via chat and EVE-mail across New Eden, and yet apparently can't "communicate" (in an implied fashion) with local or remote support crews to repair items we want to contract. Just do the math, tell me how much it will cost to repair damaged items, and let ME decide if I want to pay and continue with contract creation or not. Don't just require me to cancel the contract and tell me tough luck. That's stupid and makes no sense in a universe where spaceships are capable of zipping between star systems and communication to even the remotest regions are instantaneous. It's particularly annoying when I want to contract things that are dozens of jumps away from me.
  • Requiring me to manually stop my training and leave my ship before clone jumping. Just stop the friggin' training and extract me from my ship automatically, FFS--and then pop up a dialog reminding me (if you MUST) that the clone jump will occur when the "session change" (or however you want to humorously describe it in game world terms) is completed. Having to stop skill and leave ship manually is the dumbest time waster EVER. And then...when I'm in my other clone, restart the goddam training for me. Don't you think the coding that transfers my consciousness would have registered what I was training and sent the "restart" command along in the datastream?
  • Being asked for a password for a container that is in my hangar. If I can right click the container and ask it to retrieve the password to my email box, why the HELL are you asking me to type the damn thing in? Let's just assume that if I can easily get the password via a game mechanic, that I already know it...and open the frakking can when I double-click it, without interrupting my process or expecting my senile brain cells to remember the password from one day, week, month or year to the next.
  • Having to view a contract before it can be accepted. I contract stuff between my "business associates" all the time. I'd like to be able to designate any other character as a Trusted Partner. When right clicking on any contract in my journal from a Trusted Partner, the menu would include the word Accept--allowing me to quickly and easily do so. Furthermore, I would like the option to Accept All Trusted contracts at one time. Really, the contract mechanics are beyond annoying.
See what I mean? This shit makes me crazy. Help a menopausal woman out, CCP. Don't make me unleash my Hot Flash Rage on you. Remove these unnecessary irritants and streamline the game so that I can use my energy and innate bad attitude for more important things: like violencing others' ships, taking their stuff, and extorting their ISK.

Yarr!
